On Monday, we viewed our class E-book "Look What I Can Do" and celebrated the premier with a special visit from our principal. We loved watching ourselves and our friends on the big screen and indulged in some cookies as we viewed our book. Kindergartners are authors, too!
Throughout the week, we listened, discussed, and wrote about what friends do together, how to get along, and how to be a good friend. Students learned about what good friends do, how to problem solve when conflicts occur, how to play fairly, and how to respect and honor our differences. We read the story, "The Lion and the Mouse" and discovered that sometimes friendships can be built when they least expect it. At the end of the week, we wrote and created a friendship quilt filled with the wonderful characteristics of each classmate. Each student played a role in creating this beautiful masterpiece. As we build friendships we learn, love, and grow in our kindergarten community.
During math, we continue to work on numbers and their relationship to one another. Students are learning how to create numbers, solve math equations, and converse about how they are problem solving. We are playing games to demonstrate one to correspondence, adding numbers with dominoes, and learning how to make a ten. We are exploring geometrical shapes and discovering how they encompass the world we live in. Kindergartners enjoy working together during our math time and throughout our day.
Next week, we look forward to our first field trip to Berry Patch Farms and doing pumpkin math and science. We will also be exploring the different ways we move. We are excited about all of our kindergarten adventures!
