- Read, discussed, and wrote about non-fiction texts.
- Created and solved their own story problems.
- Launched the Smithsonian science unit " Force and Motion". We learned new vocabulary words dealing with position and motion. We then, used kinesthetics to apply our learning with our peers. We also posted our vocabulary words in our science journals and drew pictures to demonstrate our understanding.
- Learned about Martin Luther King, Jr. through stories, shared readings, a short video, and discussions. We also took a special trip to Montview Blvd Church where MLK spoke in 1964. We sat on the front steps and sang "We Shall Overcome" to reenact the visitors who came to see MLK Jr. It was a very special and memorable moment for our kindergartners.
In addition, Park Hill Elementary received the 2014 Governor's Distinguished Improvement Award for Outstanding Academic Growth. Congratulations to all the students, staff, and administration! It is a pleasure to work with such a dedicated and hard working community.
